A clear, step-by-step KS3 lesson on multiplying and dividing decimals. One reliable method each way, four worked examples, and why multiplying by less than one makes a number smaller.

Multiplying and dividing decimals is just whole-number maths with the decimal point handled carefully. To multiply, ignore the points, multiply the digits, then count the decimal places back into the answer — which is why 0.6 times 0.4 is 0.24, smaller than you might expect. To divide, make the number you are dividing by into a whole number first, then divide as normal. This lesson works through four examples, two of each.
