A coat is 20% off; a salary goes up 15%. Working out the new amount is just two steps: find the percentage of the amount, then add it on for an increase or take it off for a decrease. This lesson uses a bar model to show that a 30% increase gives 130% of the original and a 20% decrease gives 80%, and works through three examples including a sale price — all without a calculator.
