An improper fraction has a top bigger than its bottom, like seven quarters. A mixed number says the same thing as a whole number and a bit, like one and three quarters. Seven quarters of a pizza and one and three quarter pizzas are the same amount of pizza. Converting between them is division in one direction and multiplication in the other.
What is on the sheet
Improper to mixed first, which is a division where the remainder becomes the new top. Then mixed to improper, which is the reverse and the one that gets rushed. The numbers grow slowly so the method is what is being practised rather than the arithmetic. The middle of the sheet interleaves the two directions, so the pupil has to decide which way they are going rather than repeat a move, and it closes on a stretch and two word problems, one about a jug of juice and one about a distance run.
