BIDMAS Practice — Free KS3 Order of Operations Worksheet

A free, printable KS3 worksheet on BIDMAS (the order of operations) without a calculator, with a full worked answer key. 16 questions graded easy to hard for Years 7, 8 and 9, building from multiply-first up to brackets, indices, same-rung traps and word problems.

Order of operations is the rule that stops two people getting two answers from the same line of maths. Do the brackets, then the indices, then division and multiplication as they come, then addition and subtraction as they come. This is the longer teaching sheet on that rule, built to be worked through in order rather than dipped into.

What is on the sheet

The questions follow the order the rule is usually taught in. It opens on the single most common decision, whether to multiply or add first. Then brackets arrive and change answers that had felt settled. Then indices join in. The last group is deliberately awkward: two operations of the same rank in one calculation, where the only thing that decides is which comes first on the page. It closes on two worded questions where a bill has to be turned into a calculation before it can be worked out, which is where the rule earns its keep.

Marking it

The order of operations lesson covers the same ground in the same sequence if a question needs unpicking.
